Toronto has four major sports teams: Toronto FC, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays have also been referred to as the “boys of summer” and that’s because they dominate our city during the hot summer months and if we’re lucky, all the way into October.
Historically Blue Jays tickets were one of the more affordable tickets to purchase in the city, you could buy tickets as low as $6 during a weekday game but things quickly changed after the Jose Bautista bat flip. Since the 2015 season there hasn’t been this kind of excitement around the team since 1992-93 when they won back to back world series titles. The Blue Jays struggled to attract fans to the ballpark for the better part of a decade because the team was stuck in mediocrity for so long after their championship seasons in the early 90s.
Luckily we bought our tickets to the Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays game off an online ticket selling and exchange website called Stubhub.com. Stubhub can be a great resource when looking to purchase discount tickets to sport events, concerts and more.
The Blue Jays play in the Rogers Centre which twelve years ago was famously known as the Skydome. Last year over 12,000 people signed a petition demanding the city to change it’s name back to the Skydome, unfortunately this fell through.
The Rogers Centre is located in a great location in downtown Toronto and is steps away from the famous CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, and across the street you can head over to the Steam Whistle Brewery for a beer and a tour of the awesome brewery. Getting to the Rogers Centre isn’t difficult either if you’re traveling by transit; it’s steps away from Toronto’s Union station. There are tons of signs around which will lead you in the right direction or you can follow the flock of other people wearing Jay’s gear.
Overall heading to the Jays game can be a fun experience, especially when they open the dome. Grab your friends, buy some expensive beer and enjoy a game!
