Visiting Puerto Rico: Cabo Rojo

In March when I was in New York my friend Chris asked me if I had wanted to attend his cousins in Puerto Rico and I said yes almost immediately. I had never been to Puerto Rico and had only heard good things from both Chris and other friends that had visited in the past.

Chris and I flew out of John F. Kennedy airport (JFK) with Jetblue Airways to Rafael Hernandez Airport (BQN) which is located in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.I purchased a one-way ticket through the Expedia website to Puerto Rico because I wasn’t sure where I wanted to head to after the end of the trip. Luckily for us, Chris’ parents live in Puerto Rico and therefore we had a place to stay.

New York to Aguadilla

Prior to the wedding, we spent two days exploring the Cabo Rojo region of the island. We visited Cabo Rojo Beach also known as Playa Sucia which is located right next to the Faro Los Morrilos de Cabo Rojo which is the famous lighthouse in that region.

We also got to check out Combate Beach which was a 15-minute drive from Playa Sucia, since the roads aren’t paved, when leaving Playa Sucia the commute felt like it took forever. Cars we’re having to drive much slower than usual as they tried to avoid natural pot holes and avoid damaging their cars. When we finally arrived at Combate Beach we stopped for a bite to eat at a Restaurant by the name of Annie’s Place which was located just steps from the beach.

We made various visits to Boqueron Beach because it was close to where Chris’ parents lived. Chris had informed me that Boqueron’s Beach town is usually very active with street vendors, music, and dancing. Unfortunately, when we arrived they were doing construction so that was not the case but luckily we were still able to find a street vendor that was selling French oysters and clams. I’m curious to know what Boqueron Beach Town will look like once the construction is over so I will definitely be making my way back in a year or two.

Check out my other two posts about our visit to Puerto Rico, perhaps they will inspire you or even give you some ideas for your next trip

Stay Restless my friends!
